Financial markets today are the biggest and most liquid markets in the modern economies. Regulation of those markets is dynamic and complex task, success of which highly depends on the comprehensive framework of enforcement. The reaction to the latest global financial crisis forced EU to reconsider legislative policy towards enforcement efficiency and that, in turn, has led to the recent shift, albeit slight, in the attitude on the private enforcement of EU financial regulation, as evidenced by particular elements of civil actions in the EU financial markets law.
During three-day course on the private enforcement of EU financial markets law, financial law scholar and legal practitioner dr. Laurynas Didžiulis will provide brief introduction to the EU financial law and practice, present features of private enforcement and explore application of civil remedies within the financial cases.
The aim of this short course is to introduce students to the key provisions of European financial markets law. By the end of the course, students should:
The lectures will be delivered in 5, 6 and 7 of February 2018 and will take up to 2,5 hours in each day from 10h00 to 12h30. The course will be finished by the open book and open note exam, however mandatory only for students intending to get 2 credits. The exam will last max. 60 minutes and will consist of essay.
