Self-presentation on LinkedIn: a Comparison between Older and Younger Job Seekers
As social media becomes more popular for building employee brand and attracting new talent, so is the need for technological proficiency. Today, social networking sites, such as LinkedIn, are an indispensable recruitment tool; however they may pose challenges for older workers who are commonly stereotyped as less technologically skilled and less able to adapt to new technologies. Therefore, in this study we examine how successfully older and younger workers use LinkedIn to promote themselves. More specifically, we analyzed how individuals of different ages present themselves (e.g., in their profile summary and photo) and how different aspects of their self-presentation relates to indicators of success (e.g., number of endorsements, profile visits, and job offers).
