Nosocomial influenza is a serious burden for patients at risk for complications. To date single prevention strategies (e.g. health care workers vaccination, hand hygiene, masks) show limited effectiveness in reducing nosocomial influenza and combined prevention strategies are warranted. Additionally health care workers adherence with the diverse prevention strategies often does not reach targeted outcomes.
The overall aim of the Hospital associated Influenza Prevention (HaIP) study program is to reduce nosocomial influenza by a systematic implementation of surveillance (nosocomial influenza and HCWs prevention behavior) and an interventional program for HCWs to improve adherence with combined prevention strategies.
Following an implementation science approach, in this lecture, the participative development of a theory of change including intervention and implementation processes and outcomes will be presented.
