WHY DO SUBORDINATES DECIDE TO STAY WITH ABUSIVE SUPERVISORS AND HOW DO THEY COPE WITH THIS DECISION?
Subordinates, who perceive their supervisor to be abusive, experience a host of negative consequences, such as negative attitudes, stress, and health issues. Why would subordinates then decide to continue working for such abusive supervisors? Moreover, how do subordinates cope once they have made the decision to stay? We draw on research on abusive supervision, interdependence theory, and coping with stress to provide preliminary conceptual answers to these questions.
