International and interdisciplinary study day.
This international and interdisciplinary study day will explore Oscar Wilde’s Salomé (1893) across media and art forms from a comparative perspective. Wilde specialists and intermediality scholars will examine how Wilde’s play has been adapted and transposed into opera, modern dance and visual arts since its publication in 1893. The aim is to discuss the nature, significance and implications of these variations across media in order to shed light on the transcreative dynamics at work in Wilde’s play and its reception, inspiring ever new and original variations on the play.
The study day is organized by the English department in collaboration with the Centre Interdisciplinaire des Littératures (CIEL).
Guest speakers: Emily Eells (Université Paris Nanterre), Megan Girdwood (Durham University), Liliane Louvel (Université de Poitiers), Clair Rowden (Cardiff University), Emmanuel Vernadakis (Université d’Angers).
