Robotic platform for monitoring the biodiversity of retreating glacier
This presentation will report on the outcomes of the CLIMACT Starting Grant developing novel robotic tools for monitoring the biodiversity of species within alpine environments to gather data which can shed key insights into the changing biodiversity situation in the Alps.
Presented by Josie Hughes I Assistant professor at the Computational Robot Design & Fabrication Lab, School of Engineering, EPFL
VAlp Express - Feasibility study
Transform the mobility in the Vaud Alps with the VAlp Metro, a groundbreaking high-speed, green mobility project. This innovative metro system promises to connect Aigle to Chateau d’Oex in a mere 30 minutes, revolutionising commutes and supporting decentralised living. It's a versatile conduit for goods, energy, and data, aligning with Switzerland's 2050 green energy goals.
In a joint effort, Professors Jaboyedoff (UNIL) and Laloui (EPFL) led this first feasibility project. It turns out that future research needs to focus on cutting-edge technology that explores sustainability, emphasising aerodynamics, innovative traction, and the combined use of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. The VAlp Express project integrates detailed geology, energy, carbon footprint, and cost analyses. This light mountain metro is set to transform mobility and lifestyle in the Alps.
Presented by Michel Jaboyedoff I Full professor in the RISK group, Faculty of Geosciences and Environment, UNIL
